From solvent to solution: lower VOC emissions, smarter cleaning
Can industrial cleaning be carried out without traditional solvents? For a growing number of companies, this question is becoming increasingly relevant. The focus extends beyond cleaning performance to include VOC emissions, working conditions, environmental impact and process costs.
Cleaner OV from AD Chemicals is a powerful, pH neutral, water based and label free cleaner for metals and plastics. It removes contaminants including oil, grease, carbon residues, mill scale and light oxidation. This makes Cleaner OV an interesting alternative to conventional solvent based cleaners for many common contaminants. Reduced solvent use and a label free product can also contribute to a safer, more manageable working environment.
Companies such as BMS Coating and IntVeen have already taken this step. They critically reviewed their pretreatment processes and opted for a smarter, water-based approach. Cleaning results can also be checked easily with a water break test: when water forms a uniform, continuous film across the surface, this indicates that the surface is sufficiently clean and degreased for the next process step.
At IntVeen, the change delivered clear process improvements. Previously, two employees needed half a day to pretreat a single vehicle floor. Today, one person completes the cleaning with Cleaner OV and the subsequent chemical pretreatment in approximately 30 to 45 minutes. IntVeen reports savings of up to 90% in labour time and labour costs.
Smarter cleaning means less VOC, label free and safer working, verifiable cleaning results, and greater control over time, costs and process quality.
