In a regular chemical pre-treatment, the generic process consists of degreasing, etching and applying a conversion coating. After mechanical pre-treatment, no added value is added to the metal, as is the case with chemical pre-treatment. By applying MM31® after mechanical pre-treatment (e.g. sanding, blasting), the two worlds come together. This results in a clean, coating-ready surface and an improvement in the quality of the coated substrate in terms of both corrosion protection and paint adhesion properties. The result: a coating-ready surface with improved adhesion properties and long-lasting protection against corrosion.
Another advantage is that metal treated with MM31® that has not yet been coated also obtains so-called passivation properties. In concrete terms, this means: flash rust protection on steel products, white rust protection on zinc, improved bare metal corrosion resistance on aluminium. This allows for extended intermediate storage, enabling companies to further optimise coating processes.
The strength of MM31® lies in its ease of application. Whether applied manually with a cloth, using a low-pressure pump or spray, or fully automatically in a spray booth, a single step is all it takes. A new addition is the introduction of the spray can, making the technology directly available for repairs, maintenance, and small-scale applications.
Importantly, the technology meets the requirements of international quality standards such as FROSIO, NACE, GSB, QUALICOAT and QUALISTEELCOAT. This demonstrates that MM31® not only proves its worth in practice, but also in laboratory tests and international standards.
From innovation to market standard
Extensive practical tests carried out at customer sites, in collaboration with paint suppliers and independent institutes, show that MM31® creates added value after mechanical pre-treatment when looking at paint adhesion and corrosion protection properties. Companies that made the switch are able to demonstrably increase their quality level. Compared to conventional chemical processes (degreasing, etching and conversion coating), MM31® offers a greatly simplified alternative: one product, one process step. This combination of technical performance and ease of use has led to widespread acceptance in the market.
- Truck and trailer construction
This sector has extremely high requirements for durability and corrosion resistance. Major leading German manufacturers of aluminium tipper trailers, among other players, use MM31® to meet these standards. Spuiterij Munsters proves that MM31® can be applied in a fully automated manner: the technology is integrated into a modern production line in a robot-controlled spray booth. This demonstrates that MM31® is suitable for both manual and fully automated processes.
- ACE industry (Agriculture, Construction & Earthmoving)
Agricultural machinery, construction and earth-moving equipment are exposed to harsh conditions on a daily basis. MM31® offers reliable adhesion and long-lasting protection, significantly extending the service life of vehicles and equipment.
Machines and components must be resistant to mechanical stress and corrosion. By using MM31®, machine builders and contract coaters can significantly improve the quality and durability of coatings.
- Furniture and interior construction
Metal frames and components of chairs, tables and cabinets are subject to intensive use and must retain their appearance for many years. MM31® provides durable, aesthetically pleasing surfaces for this sector that are resistant to wear and corrosion.
Other sectors also use MM31®, such as manufacturers of pumps, construction work, doors and fencing. Contract coaters particularly appreciate the combination of high-quality corrosion protection and ease of use.
