From production line to workshop: MM31® sets new standard in one-step pre-treatment

Introduction of the technology

For years, the surface treatment industry has faced the same challenge: how can the quality of corrosion protection and paint adhesion be further improved, while at the same time making processes simpler, safer and more sustainable?

With the introduction of MM31®, AD Chemicals has set an important step in this trajectory. MM31® combines cleaning, degreasing, corrosion protection and paint adhesion in a single process step.

In the field of pre-treatment methods, mechanical pre-treatment (such as blasting or sanding) followed by a coating system is common. What if mechanical pre-treatment could be combined with the added value of chemical pre-treatment? This was the starting point for the development of MM31®. In a regular chemical pre-treatment, the generic process consists of degreasing, etching and applying a conversion coating. After mechanical pre-treatment the surface is only roughened (compared to the etching step), no added value is created to the metal because there is no conversion coating, as is the case with chemical pre-treatment. By applying MM31® after mechanical pre-treatment the two worlds come together. This results in a clean, coating-ready surface and an improvement in the quality of the coated substrate. The result: a surface with improved adhesion properties and long-lasting corrosion protection.
